BTC Bank partners with FHLB Des Moines to award $40,000 to Grundy County Veteran’s Association through the Member Impact Fund

BTC Bank, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines or Bank), has announced that Grundy County Veteran’s Association will receive a $40,000 grant through the Member Impact Fund. This matching grant program is designed to amplify the community engagement of FHLB Des Moines member institutions that support local housing, business and economic needs.
In Missouri, 956 applications received funding through partnerships with 174 member institutions. FHLB Des Moines matched $3 for every $1 contributed by a member institution, resulting in $6.5 million from members and $19.4 million awarded by FHLB Des Moines.

“Organizations like the Grundy County Veteran’s Association make a real difference in our communities,” said Doug Fish, President and Chief Executive Officer of BTC Bank. “Through our partnership with FHLB Des Moines, this grant helps provide resources that might not otherwise be available. We’re honored to support a project that will serve veterans and the broader community for years to come.”

The funds will be used to renovate a building that will serve as the permanent home for the Grundy County Veteran’s Association. The organization’s mission is to support VFW Post 919, American Legion Post 31 and local veterans by creating and maintaining a permanent physical structure and home, while helping improve access to services, physical health, mental health and overall quality of life. The building will provide permanent office space for the Veterans Service Officer, as well as space for a psychologist to meet with veterans. It will also offer areas for relaxation, fellowship and meetings, with space available for other community organizations.

“This grant is a tremendous step forward for the Grundy County Veteran’s Association and for the veterans we serve,” said Sam Smith, Quartermaster of the Grundy County Veteran’s Association. “Having a permanent location will give us the opportunity to better support local veterans, provide access to important resources and create a welcoming space for fellowship, connection and community use. We are grateful to BTC Bank and FHLB Des Moines for partnering with us and helping make this vision a reality.”

“The Member Impact Fund is designed to help our members champion organizations like, Grundy County Veteran’s Association, that make a real difference in their communities,” said Kris Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer of FHLB Des Moines. “By partnering with our members, we’re able to multiply resources and support their vital work as they continue to strengthen opportunities for the people they serve.”

Since its launch in 2023, the Member Impact Fund has provided more than $106 million in grants from FHLB Des Moines, generating over $144 million in combined support for affordable housing and community development. Notably, every eligible application submitted to the program has received funding, reflecting the Bank’s strong commitment to partnership and impact.

"Projects like this are exactly why community partnerships matter," said Fish. "When local organizations, community banks and partners like FHLB Des Moines work together, we can accomplish more than any one of us could alone."
